Greener Pathways is a cottage fiber studio in Durant, Iowa. I take raw fleece, turn it into yarn by hand, and split the finished yarn 50/50 with the person who sent it.
My name is Pamela Middleton. I live in Eastern Iowa with my family. We cannot keep livestock at the house we have now, so the work starts in a garage studio and grows from there.
What I do
People mail fleece to a PO Box in Durant. I log each box in the order it arrives, process it, photograph the progress, and ship half of the finished yarn back. The other half is how the processing gets paid.
I accept any fleece that can reasonably be processed. You pay shipping both ways. The public queue lists first name, city and state, and the animal name or fiber type — not last names.
Where this is going
Greener Pathways is the first working piece of a longer plan: finish the home studio, buy the next tools, then land near Durant / Muscatine, then sheep and alpacas, then a small mill and shop.
The current studio already has a skirting table, a mini wooden drum carder, hand carders, wool combs, an Ashford blending board, a tabletop loom, an e-spinner, and a drop spindle. An Ashford Kiwi spinning wheel is next. After that, a Panda spin dryer and a wool picker.
